The Ultimate Boon
King's Dead
Don’t mourn for too long,
for the Queen has never left.
Watch your step,
stand as She enters,
but still look Her in the eye.
Today we are here
to honor the man who ruled
and the Woman who continues to rule.
Let us raise our glasses
and listen to what She has to say:
I’ll be quick,
to a reign that sings lullabies to our enemies
so that one day, they grow to be more human.
Ambrosia
stars bursting
purple ashes at the foot of a throne
a supernova in the shape of a Woman
an Empress
drinking ambrosia
inviting you to take a sip
a dazzling display of
ecstasy and awe
the Queen of Queens
a mind that sparkles
leaving glimmers of energy
fireworks seeping from a black sky
make a wish
and She will smile as She
blows out the candles
Felix
He’s really the most adorable baby She’s ever seen.
His eyes are big
and full of stars.
And those lips
are like Jupiter and mars.
He bops his head slightly
while his hair does that cute little thing
that makes him look like a
Black Benjamin Button.
His mother is in another room,
pumping her milky way,
putting the universe in a bottle.
The baby was brought to Her
because of meteor showers he
faced in the womb,
but as She breathes him in
and sees the craters in his soul
she can’t help but see another moon.
And when She blows lightly into his eyes,
they flutter and twinkle back.
When She picks him up and spins him around,
he releases little rings like Saturn.
When She gives him a bath,
She can see the galaxies in his skin.
And as She glides around the room,
he looks up at Her with stars in his eyes.
Purple Street Lights
here,
when head and pillow collide
and the mind begins to hum
it will be a melody
because worries are for the daytime
and calm is for the night
a light breeze
becoming a cozy blanket
as She tucks the world in tight
in a world with
purple streetlights
Snow
the man at the wheel
had had a long day
he had just pulled a double,
and the night before,
he had had trouble with his baby girl
sleep and driver
predator and prey
black ice, blink twice
roll the dice, pay a price
he hoped to buy wife something nice,
and that she had made beans and rice
quick eject, no time to reflect
where’s the net, how to protect
he wanted to collect the glitter flashing by,
but he couldn’t tell the difference between glass and snow,
both sparkling under the evening glow
fly high, touch the sky
just a guy, an alibi?
red paint, soft strokes
a soft sigh
a canvas of air

it must have been a dream

because under the glare
he was sure he was floating
what a show, becoming slow
time seems to grow, snow below
and when he landed,
his back tiptoed across the ground
cradle me, set me free
answering a desperate plea
deep breaths
fogged like clouds
clinging to the sky
relax now, the final act
lay your head back
he could still walk home,
feet cracking the snow,
rocking his daughter back to sleep
never again, let’s make amends
hit send, don’t pretend
spoons of rice
from a bowl in his wife’s hands
a miracle in the form of a Woman
he looked up at the sky
and watched the snowflakes descend
white crystals making their home
a top of a sea of glass
a life meant to last
