Reflection

As expected, I had fun with this experiment because I like to explore my inner thoughts through poetry. My favorite poem to write was “Treasure,” although it took me awhile to find the right wording in the third, fourth, and fifth stanzas and I’m am still not sure if I like the way they flow yet.

I wrote almost all of the poems off of specific lines that came to my head randomly in specific moments. For example, I thought of the line “At my feet there are a million little ants” when I was walking outside to class and built a poem about how colorism feels around this simple phrase. One thing I may redo is the “Darkness” poem, it doesn’t seem as strong as the other ones to me and feels more superficial for this reason. I built this one around the line “who ever said darkness was a bad thing” but I don’t think the rest of the poem is as strong as that first line.

These poems mean a lot to me because I don’t normally share my poetry with people, so doing it in an experiment where I know people will eventually read it is odd to me. I am glad I took this step and I am excited to see where my poetry will take me in the future.
