Who am I?

Hello and welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Akili Echols and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Michigan. I am from Farmington Hills, MI (which is only about forty minutes from Ann Arbor). I am majoring in sociology with a double minor in education for empowerment, and, of course, writing! Some hobbies of mine include reading, running, writing, and Netflix.

This ePortfolio was created to display all of the work I created during my minor in writing gateway journey. Throughout the semester, I explored colorism and how it has impacted my life and my family's life.

If you want to learn even more about me, be sure to read Why I Write, my Writing Manifesto, and my five minute pieces!

I hope you enjoy my work as

much as I enjoyed making it.

What is

Colorism?

"Prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group."

-Oxford Dictionary
